“Aqui nasceu Portugal” (Portugal was born here) is the calling card for those who arrive in Guimarães. In fact, this is the city where it all began and which gave rise to the kingdom of Portugal. The birthplace of the nation, classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO, still preserves its medieval historic centre and its streets and squares of great beauty which allow us to travel back to D. Afonso Henriques’ period, the first king of Portugal, known as “The conqueror”. The tour includes visiting the Castle, the Santa Maria medieval street and the Largo do Toural, our last stop.
This half-day city tour is escorted by a certified guide who will personalize your experience to the fullest, guiding you through the UNESCO World Heritage Historical Center.
While you visit the main monuments and sites of the city, our knowledgeable and friendly tour guide will share with you the history of the Portuguese Independence, which started in this city in the 12th century.
