Introduction

MATERIAIS 2027, joining the XXIII Congresso da Sociedade Portuguesa de Materiais, the XIV International Symposium on Materials, will take place in Porto, Portugal, March 22 to 24, 2027.

MATERIALS 2027 offers a high-quality scientific program, seeking to mitigate the latest scientific and technological developments in Materials Science and Engineering and related areas with concerns of sustainability and recyclability, focusing on the purpose of discussing the role of Materials for a better future.

MATERIAIS 2027 conference will be held at Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP). Porto is a beautiful city in northern Portugal, world-famous for its Port wine, historical charm, and views of the Douro River. The city combines ancient architecture with modern culture and vibrant streets. Its bridges, especially the Luís I Bridge, are emblematic landmarks of a setting that is a World Heritage site.

Porto is also known for its rich gastronomy, where the delicious “francesinha” stands out and for the friendliness of its inhabitants, making it the perfect place to strengthen ties within the scientific community dedicated to Materials.

MATERIALS 2027 will offer an exceptional technical and scientific program, with a graduate school, plenary and guest lectures, as well as a diverse set of oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts. All participants are also invited to submit posters that will be discussed in specific sessions. Awards will be given to the best posters and oral presentations by doctoral students. The best 40 full abstracts will be selected for publication in a special book edition.

During the meeting, SPM will award the SPM Career and Recognition Award (Prémio SPM de Carreira e Reconhecimento). The purpose of this award is to recognize, encourage and promote excellency of all activities regarding teaching, development, research, innovation and industrial production in the area of Materials in Portugal.

We hope that MATERIALS 2027 will attract a significant number of participants, encouraging interaction and collaboration within the scientific community to promote the development of materials for a better future.

We look forward to seeing you in Porto in March 2027
